Lumsden grinding is the process of removing material from the surface of steel/cast iron to achieve a flat even surface. This can be to achieve one or several goals;
- To remove a bend or twist from a profiled part. (flat and parallel to 0.05mm per running 300mm)
- To supply a size that can’t be sourced in steel stock. (unspecified tolerance of +/- 0.25mm)
- To remove surface imperfections
- To remove wear from an already machined part
- For aesthetic purposes, to give a part a nice finish
- To add a finished touch to a fabrication
- To provide a size within a tolerance over a batch of many parts
- To grind 2, 4 or 6 sides of a part ready for CNC machining
- To regrind a repaired part
- To apply a taper to a part
